Frequently asked questions
Is converting MOV to MP4 free?
Yes. You do not need an account or to install anything, and the resulting video has no watermark.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device, so we never receive or store your videos. That makes it a good choice for personal or work recordings.
Will I lose quality?
Not in “Fast” mode: the video and audio are copied into an MP4 without being compressed again, so the quality is the same as the original. Only the “Maximum compatibility” mode compresses the video again (to H.264), and then there may be a small loss of quality. If the video already uses H.264, it is not compressed again either.
Does it work with iPhone videos?
Yes. iPhone videos are MOV files that usually use HEVC (H.265) or H.264, with AAC audio. “Fast” mode turns them into MP4 without touching the quality. If a player later cannot open the MP4, see the question about HEVC.
Can I convert very large videos?
It depends on the browser. In Chrome and Edge on a computer, the MP4 is saved straight to the folder you choose and does not have to fit in memory, so videos of several GB can be converted. In other browsers the result is built in your device’s memory: files larger than a few hundred MB can be slow or fail, especially on phones.
Which browsers work?
“Fast” mode does not need advanced features, so it should work in recent versions of most browsers. “Maximum compatibility” needs a browser that can encode video, which Chrome and Edge do on a computer; if yours cannot, that option does not appear.
Why does my MP4 not play in some players?
Most likely because the video uses HEVC (H.265), an efficient format that some players, especially on certain Windows or Android devices, cannot open without extra components. Convert it again with “Maximum compatibility” to get an MP4 with H.264, which almost any device plays. It takes longer and the file can end up larger.
